Hoffman California

Rube Hoffman was born in New York in 1893. His family was a supplier for boy's clothing, and at the age of 14 he started working for the New York City garment industry. He travelled with his uncle, selling the family's merchandise to retailers across the United States. For the next 14 years Rube and his uncle sold wool flannel from textile mills to coat manufacturers under the new name Hoffman Woolens.

After his military service during World War II, Rube settled down in Los Angeles with his wife where he had two sons Philip and Walter. They would help further expand Hoffman Woolens into the international company it is today.

Now known as Hoffman California Fabrics, International they are mainly known for supplying textiles for quilt and aloha wear use. The Hoffman brothers are the ones who expanded the company into exploring Asian themed and tropical patterns for their prints. What makes their fabric so unusual is their hand dyed batik fabric, designed in the US and manufactured in their factory in Bali.

In 1975, the Textile Association of Los Angeles (TALA) honored Rube for co-founding the developing their trade organization.
